About The Author:

Nikita Singh is the bestselling author of six novels, including Love@Facebook, Accidentally in Love and The Promise. She has coauthored two books with Durjoy Datta, titled If It's Not Forever and Someone Like You. She has also contributed to the books in The Backbenchers series. She was born in Patna and grew up in Indore, from where she graduated in pharmacy.

My Review:

Nikita Singh, there is no need to say anything about the author. The name itself says a lot. Nikita Singh is one of my personal favorite and I never give a miss to her books. Though this time, I got a bit late in reading her book.

Have you ever come across a HIV patient? How would you react if you find someone with HIV positive? Would your behavior towards your best friend will change if you get to know she/he is having HIV??? There are many questions whose answers vary from one person to other.

Anyways coming back to the story, this book’s protagonist, Lavanya Suryavanshi is a well placed and well settled girl. With her strict demeanor she rules her profession world. But when she discovers that she is having HIV positive, her world comes to a screeching halt. She moves back to her hometown Delhi leaving behind the lavish life of New York. 

At Delhi she meets her old friend Shourya Kapoor. Trust me girl, the way author has portrayed this man, you will surely fall for him. Lavanya knew she is going to die very soon, she picks up pen and paper and notes down her bucket list which has to be fulfilled before she dies. Unsure of what her friend is up to, Shourya decides to help her to complete the wishes and the story moves on.

Will Shourya fall for her or would Lavanya fall for him, to know you have to read the story. I don’t want to act as a spoiler here. I bet, you might not have read a story like this before. 

With a gripping and fast paced story, Nikita Singh has waved her magic again.

My Review:

25 Strokes of Kindness is a book consisting of 25 short stories each telling an act of kindness.

The moment I saw there is a new book of my favorite author Nikita Singh; the author whom I love, respect and admire, without any second thought  I grabbed it for100 bucks.

It rusted on my book shelf for a week or so because I do not read collection of short stories, it always disappoints me. Anthologies generally are not so descriptive and it leaves you guessing the never ending part.

This Saturday after dinner when I opened the book with no excitement, the first story ‘OUROBOROS’ by "Nanya Srivastava" astonished me. I had never expected that such a story could be a part of an anthology.

I moved, this time with a little more excitement to the next story, ‘Is it Kinder to Give or Receive’ by “Asfiya Rahman”, it made me speechless again. It was something different, something unique which I had never read before.

And then there was now time looking back, I spent the whole night reading the book and I must say, this book is really worth reading. It made me cry, smile, and overjoyed too.

All the stories are really worth reading. I have some personal favorites;

‘Pentimento’ by “Rafaa Dalvi” ; ‘Fifteen minutes’ by “Nikita Singh” ; 

‘The Lost Girl’ by “Arushi Pathak”  and many others in fact all.

The only story that disappointed me was, ‘Six Rupees’ by “Husna Advani” ; the ending somewhat is confusing..

P.S: Its a fact that Nikita Singh is my personal favorite but still I never got biased while writing the review..

Nikita Singh is a famous Indian author and editor from Patna. She graduated in Pharmacy, only to pursue her writing career later. She is the editor at Grapevine Publishers. Singh also speaks regularly in TEDx conferences.

But these events showcase things about her to Arjun that he didn't notice the first time. The Promise portrays how the story goes ahead considering Arjun's negligence and Shambhavi's rough times.

My Review:

Where should I start from?? Even while writing this, my eyes are almost moist. I love reading love stories and when the author is “Nikita Singh”, I don’t need to think twice before picking it up.

The book is about the love between two characters, Sambhavi Sen and Arjun Datta. Sambhavi, a cheerful girl chooses an unconventional career for her. Irrespective of many recent trends, she tries her hand in Interior Designing. While working for a project, she meets Arjun Datta, owner of Datta Enterprise. She gets amused when she finds that Arjun is just 29.

For both of them it was more or less, love at first sight. The simple yet attractive looks of Sambhavi attracted Arjun, meanwhile, the rocking personality of Arjun attracted Sambhavi.

Things were almost in its place, until Sambhavi confronted him that she is bearing his child. Hearing this, Arjun wasn’t excited but frustrated. His past haunts him back and he leaves Sambhavi referring her as slut and doing such for money. Rather than aborting, a rejected and dejected Sambhavi decides to raise her child single handedly.

Well, that’s not the end!!! Many things are yet to take place in Sambhavi’s life. To know the entire story you have to read the book. It would be completely unfair for the author if I disclose everything here.

P.S. Trust me when I say, I had to skip a few pages because I am not that strong to read such emotional stuffs.

(Oh! there wasn't any second thought after completing the book.. This is definitely one of the best I have ever read..)
