Jab se You have Loved Me

"The story of an Airhostess & an IIT-ian"

Author: S.R.Saha

Published By: Srishti Publishers and Distributors

ISBN: 978-93-803-4915-2

About the Author:

S.R. Saha was born in Calcutta and did his schooling from South Point High School. After graduating in mechanical engineering from IIT-Madras, he joined Indian Airlines (now Air India) as a trainee. Presently he is working as Chief Aircraft Engineer with Air India and based in Kolkata.

A number of his short stories and articles have been published in renowned dailies and magazines. This is his debut novel. He is an ardent fan of Kishore Kumar and Rahul Dev Burman and has plans of starting a fan club someday.

Book Blurb:

Atin is a first class IIT graduate. But he sells cheap Chinese gadgets for a living.

His Love: Ujani is a first class Bio sciences graduate from Calcutta University. But she gets the job of an airhostess.

His friends:
Luv prepares to be Chartered Accountant But ends up working for a stockbroker.
Iqbal is a graduate in philosophy. But he is a shopkeeper.
Russel Raj has a Ph.D from an American University. But he has no job.

In this extraordinarily gripping and hilarious story of love, life, friendship and adventure do these young people finally make it?

My Review:

Well, this was my second book from the same Author. The book has a lovely cover which attracted me and that’s the reason I picked this book.

As the title suggests, Atin (protagonist of the story) is an IIT pass out. After graduating from IIT, he is in search of a job. While attending an interview for a job, he meets Ujani (female protagonist of the story.) As happen in other love stories, Atin falls in love with Ujani. Then there is a twist in the tale, Ujani gets a job with Pan India Airlines and moves away to Hyderabad. But the distance between the couple were not enough to break them apart.

Despite being an IIT pass out, Atin’s career never reached high. He leads a simple life; in technical terms a Loser’s life. To know Atin’s story and his struggling life you have to read the book. It would be unfair, if I write everything here.

Though the language in which the book is written is quite good, the story isn’t something which will attract you. The ending is more or less like those of the Ram Gopal Verma movies. Perhaps, the Author has tried to make the book a bit filmy.

My Rating: 3/5
(An OKAY read but I won't recommend this book)

"Best Friends are Forever"

Author: Ishita Bhown

Published By: General Press Publishers

ISBN: 978-93-809-1415-2

About The Author:

Ishita Bhown, born and brought up in Jaipur, has recently completed her B.Tech and is currently working with a leading software firm based in Noida. 'I am what I am, easy to know and difficult to understand', she claims.

Her bubbly and talkative nature is the reason behind a long list of friends who she believes are an integral part of her life. Her hobbies include blogging, philately and reading.

'To Get Her' is her debut novel and she is excited for your feedback.

Book Blurb:

To Get Her' is a sassy story about a simple girl who enters the fascinating world of engineering with a lot of dreams and aspirations but the very first day of the college makes her face the appalling realities of a 'not so simple' life that awaits her. If her own problems weren't enough, a cynical local gangster decides to turn her life upside down just to get to talk to her best friend, to revive a long lost one sided love affair. If it wasn't for the support of her friends who stood by her side, she would have broken up completely.

The story takes you to the college campus, the carefree days and the excitement each day brought from the first crush to romantic fantasies, strange co-incidences, to big misunderstandings, from detective instincts to protective feelings. Most importantly it tells you the importance of friendship and togetherness. Enjoy ToGetHer, where each page unfolds a new experience and keeps you wanting to read more.

My Review:

We are living in an era where Engineering is the preferred professional course. We have heard a number of cases of ragging and though we fear to be a part of such chaos, we prefer doing Engineering.

Ayesha (the protagonist) of the story takes up engineering leaving her old school friends behind. She feels nostalgic at first, but very soon gets adapted with the surroundings. Her bubbly and friendly nature helps her making new friends but she always preferred to be in a group with whom she can freely share all her feelings. Even in the college her group was limited to Lakhist, Rohan, Snigdha, Jia and few others.

Life was going all good for her but a single misunderstanding between her and Rohan made her life upside down. It was in the end of her last semester when she lands into a big trouble. To know her entire story you need to read the book. It will be unfair for the Author if I write everything here.

The story isn’t that unique. It’s a simple story of a girl, Ayesha and her friends. The language in the book is simple and easy to read. A total of 23 chapters in 176 pages can be quickly finished (For me, it took around three hours.)

If you are looking for an easy and quick read, you can pick this book.

My Rating: 3.5/5
(A good Friday read; simple and quick)

A Half-Baked Love Story

Author: Anurag Garg & Gunjan Narang

Published By: Srishti Publishers and Distributors

ISBN: 978-93-803-4967-1

About The Author:

Anurag Garg: Not yet a Bachelor of Technology, he’s not so sincere student of Bharti vidyapeeth’s college of engineering, New Delhi. After being an unknown pass-out from St. Xavier’s School and having tried a hand at journalism, he finally found his forte in writing. Simple living and plenty eating is his funda in life.

Random thoughts, eligible to be put together in the form of a storyline dragged him to his destiny.

Gunjan Narang: As aspiring educationalist, polishing her mind and teaching skills at Miranda House.

Assuming that she was never born to be a teacher, fell in love with the profession and faced a similar accident in case of writing. Writing, to her, is a means of influencing masses. A sudden encounter with a friend brought her into realization of a hidden spark in her and here she is, with her first recognized work.

Book Blurb:

Have you ever: Been a prey to love at first sight?
Proposed your girl after boozing and fainted before knowing her answer?
Went to your first date with an empty wallet?
Got caught kissing your girl by none other than her father?
Risked your IIT exam, to meet her for the last time?

Well if this excites you enough, here is an enchanting read for you all, " A Half-Baked Love Story "

From the first glimpse to the last letter, what happes finally ????

My Review:

If I ever get a chance to change a book’s end then I will surely pick this book. My eyes were almost moist even before finishing the book.

As the title speaks, this book narrates a love story; love between Aarav and Anamika. The story begins describing Aarav as a rich brat sleeping with every other girl he gets attracted to. But this behavior of his isn’t something which he inherited; it has something to do with his past life.

Sometime later, after boozing in a party, he began to narrate his past. He narrates how he met Anamika for the first time and more or less falls in love with her at the very first sight. As of his shy nature, he feared to propose her at first. And when he gathered the courage to propose her, he fell down before hearing her answer.

To know the story of Aarav and Anamika, you need to read the book. It would be completely unfair to the Authors, if I describe everything here.

The story of the book is just like any other love book, but the Author’s style of writing makes it different from others. Certainly, this book is a page turner and I bet you will never feel bore while reading the book.

My Rating: 4/5
(If you love reading book on love, then you can't afford to miss this book !! )

Life Served Hot

" -- Best Taken with a pinch of Salt"

Author: Shomprakash Sinha Roy

Published By: Grapevine India Publishers

ISBN: 978-93-818-4110-5

About The Author:

Shomprakash Sinha Roy stays in Bangalore and works as a content developer at Dell Inc. He has previously written The Pink Smoke to narrate the initial stages of his life’s events in a censored fictional basket (his own words). He loves books, and has a fantastic collection of classics and contemporary hits.

He joined engineering in 2008, but eventually dropped out, owing to a difference in opinion with his college authorities and multiple medical complications. He later attended grad school at th Institue of Charted Financial Analysts in India, to work his way towards a degree in Business Management. He claims that his greatest sustainable experience stems from the struggle he has witnessed.

Book Blurb:

Siddhant Roy is back in Bangalore after being detained and having had a really depressing semester. He wants to rebuild his life from scratch without looking back…

But he is an engineering student, after all. It never gets easy!

He makes a bunch of new friends, who takes him on a journey where he crashes into strange apartments, gets drunk and pukes halfway across the city, tries to start an online social network and watches all his efforts fail miserably.

He faces denial, acceptance, love and hatred, all in the span of less than a year. He must now make a choice, whether to silently withstand the oppression of his sinister & stubborn college principal, or to risk everything and take his own stand.

What will Siddhant do????

My Review:

This might be a fictional book but this book will make you confront with the reality. No doubt we are living in a century, where every other person is an engineer or a doctor but here the Author has something different to say.

Siddhant Roy, the protagonist of the story returns to Bangalore to continue his engineering where he was detained in the previous year. He decides to start his life afresh. He befriends Ridhim, Vishal, Gaurav and others and life started running smoothly for him. But Life isn’t that easy, is it ??

Things then started becoming hard for Siddhant. His parents were informed about his boozing, from none other than the principal himself. Nothing went good for him. When he was thinking to start a new life with his –ex, she left him and moved on, leaving him behind as a loser.

To know the complete story, you need to read the book. It would be highly unfair to the Author, if I write everything here.

The best thing about this book is its writing style. The Author has beautifully written the book making it a good read. It has a gripping story where you will find no option but to turn the page. Like me, I bet, you will crave to know the story of Siddhant Roy.

My Rating: 4/5 (Obviously, a good read. you can easily connect with the character).

The Jadoo of Your Love

"..... yes, why can't we fall in love again ???"

Author: S.R.Saha

Published By: Srishti Publishers and Distributors

ISBN: 978-93-826-6500-7

About The Author:

S.R.Saha (Shubha Ranjan Saha) graduated as a Mechanical Enginneer from IIT, Madras and is presently employed with Air India as Chief Aircraft Engineer.

He has previously authored the best selling novel, “Jab se You have Loved Me: the story of an IITian & an airhostess.”

Book Blurb:

In the final year of college, Anurag’s life was falling apart – he vowed never to see Aditya, his best friend of many years again. Of course, what Aditya did was unpardonable.

Not just losing his best friend, Anurag’s love Urmi too get married to someone else the day unemployed Anurag got the job of a flight purser in an airline company.

In this page-turner of a spellbinding novel, every reader would ride the crests and thoughs of myriad emotions – love, hate, anger, depression, excitement and joy that fill life’s every moment and savor the essence of true love that is mystic and magical.

My Reviews:

It didn’t took me long to finish this book. The book is of only 155 pages and written in a very simple language which makes it an easy read.

Like any other love story, this book speaks of a story where Anurag (the male protagonist) falls in love with Urmi (the female lead of the story). When everything seemed well in its place, Urmi asks Anurag to get married. Being a jobless, Anurag asks for some time before settling in. This hurts Urmi and she ends up marring to a person of her parent’s choice.

Heartbroken Anurag tries hard to get back Urmi but fails. He struggles all through his life by joining as a Flight Purser in an Airline Company. The story then moves on narrating his life and his struggle.

So would Anurag be able to get Urmi ?? Where Urmi is ?? Is she Happy with her life ?? To know, you have to read the book. It would be unfair if I disclose everything here.

A good love story but not an unique one. The use of Hindi titles for each chapter takes away the flow of the story and I am slightly disappointed for it, though I was not expecting anything better. If you have read some good book on love stories then this book won’t interest you.

My Ratings: 2.5/5 (An okay read, but I won't like to recommend this book)

Book Blurb:

The final audition for Rajhans College’s prestigious music band brings together three contrasting personalities.
Vikrant, a perfectionist, who believes there is only one perfect someone from you.
Anamika, a free spirit, who stands up for what she believes is right.
And Yuvi, a die-hard music lovers, who can strum the guitar all night long and still wake up the next morning to drop off his girlfriend.

The three become close friends and start hanging out regularly. So how does Aditya, a stranger, become a part of their lives? And what happens next?

Sorry, You’re Not My Type is a true story that will redefine friendship, affection, and infactuation.

My Reviews:

Before I began how I felt about this book, let me honestly say one thing, this is Sudeep’s fourth Novel and by far the best from his pen. In recent times, this is the best book that I have read.

The Story starts with Vikrant narrating his life’s past. He narrates how he met with the other two protagonists; Anamika and Yuvi. As time passed, all three of them became the best of buddies. Their friendship became stronger as they gel up together to form a band; VAYU. The band VAYU, not only strengthen their friendship bond but it also got applauded from the entire Delhi university.

When everything was going good, Anamika broke up with Anurag; president of student’s union. And this decision of Anamika made her and the band VAYU suffer. Anurag wasn’t able to digest the fact that he was being rejected by a girl, it hurted his ego, and he then decides to take revenge and make Anamika’s life hell.

Well, the story doesn’t end here. The ending is something which left me speechless. I wasn’t sure whether to feel sad or to cry. I had never expected that the ending would be something of this kind.

P.S. I can’t disclose the entire story here because that would be completely unfair for the book. You have to read to know the story of “VAYU”. This book is certainly going to change your perception on Love and will redefine Friendship.

My Ratings: 5/5 (truly, an awesome read, you just can't afford to miss)

Book Blurb:

Rahul had everything going his way – a soaring career, a happy family and all else a man his age could yearn for. And then suddenly his life began to crumble all around him, disintegrating him, disintegrating element after precious element, leaving him to watch in helpless horror.

Avantika, a pretty, vivacious girl who had come into Rahul’s life by pure incident, literally, has suddenly gone missing. Just like that, without as much as a trace.

Shalini, Rahul’s first love and a girl accustomed to leading life on her own terms. Hailing from a family that exerts considerable influence in the galleries of politics and power, she certainly has the wherewithal to impact a lot of things. Even lives.

My Reviews:

Before I say anything, let me say that the first thing that came out of my mouth after finishing the book, “A Shocked expression of WOW”. The story, the characters, the narration, last but not the least, the writings has left no stone unturned to make this book a bestselling.

The story starts with Rahul (the male protagonist) bumping into an air-hostess, Avantika. As time passed, Avantika became an important part of his life. But before anything could fall back to its place, Avantika went on missing. Rahul’s assumptions said it must be Shalini (Rahul’s powerful ex-wife) who abducted her. And then the story moves on…

(Don’t want to write everything here or else it would take away the awesomeness of the book, read it to know, what happens next in their life.)

At first, I thought this book is written based on the Bollywood movie, “Rishtey” (Anil Kapoor starrer) but the Author proved me wrong. The ending or the climax was something which made me sad; it has an ending which I have never read before.

Apart from all this, the Author has beautifully described father-daughter love, husband-wife love and the problems which could arise post-marriage, and that makes it different from the other books of its kind.

My Ratings: 5/5

(irrespective of my review and ratings, I would like to recommend this book to all)

Beautiful India: A Myth

"Girls are as beautiful as flowers,
they need to be nurtured and cared or else they will start fading their beauty. Case would be worse when someone you love leaves hope of living"

There a lot of things we know about our incredible India.

Yes!! Don’t we all know about Taj Mahal, which is one of the wonders of the world. It also stands for the symbol of Love.

Many of us want to spend our vacation at hill-stations like Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Ooty, Nainital and others.

Many photographers click and upload beautiful snaps of Red Fort, Rajasthan’s desert, Mumbai’s tall dome buildings, on various social sites. We all are surrounded by such beauties for which we proudly say, “I am proud to be an Indian.”

Well, are we really proud ???

Think again, are we really proud ???

If your answer is still yes, then I would like to show you some ugly faces of our country. There are a lot many things which will make you realize where our country is leading to…..

Rape:

Screw other countries, let alone take the case of India.

A rape takes place every 20 minutes in India. Statistics show that the number of rapes has risen steadily. But only 10% of all rapes get reported and 24% of these cases see convictions.

Your eyes must have popped up by now. But let me show you some more ugly things.

Rape and sexual assault are crimes that are not defined by time, location, caste or even age. Sex offenders too, cannot be defined as being of a particular ‘type’. Acts of sexual violence are committed even by relatives, friends and colleagues, apart from complete strangers. These acts are often a display of power, authority and domination, and not committed only out of lust. In India, not only a girl of Twenties or Thirties is vulnerable of being raped but even a girl of four year and ninety-three sometimes serves as victim.

Yes, some days before, a girl of four years was raped in the capital city of our country.
Now here arises a question, why someone do such a cruel act ??

I remember, some days back, when I was having a group chat with some of my friends, one of my friend said, no one else but the girl, herself is responsible of being raped.

Do you agree to this ????

If yes, then I would say, friend you are suffering from cheap mentality disorder. Yeah! You heard it right; you are suffering from “CHEAP MENTALITY DISORDER”

I hope, you know what Rape is?? If you don’t let me brush up some of our knowledge:

According to Indian law, a man is said to commit rape if:

  • He applies his mouth to or penetrates the vagina, urethra, anus or mouth of a woman without her consent, using his penis, fingers or an object.
  • He forces her to do the same with him or another person.

The above two points is more than enough to disclose who the culprit could be. It’s the MALE; the MALE of our society are the ones who are solely responsible for such acts. A Girl, a Female, in no way can be proved to be guilty.

Some of you will now say, the dress/the attire, to be precise, shorts wore by girls provoke a man to rape.

If you say so, I will say, you are suffering from “CHEAP MENTALITY DISORDER”

We are in 21st century, where man and woman both are said and treated as equals. So if a male has the permission to wear anything of his choice, then why his female counterpart doesn’t have the same right. Who are we, to decide what she will wear and what she shouldn’t. She has the same rights as of any other male.

In no way, a girl provokes a BOY.

NOTE:

Some things you can say to a survivor of rape :

  • It's not your fault.
  • Don’t question yourself; you did nothing wrong.
  • You are not the reason this happened.
  • You are not alone.
  • This is not the end of your life.

Some things you should not say to a survivor or rape:

  • At least you are alive! You're luckier than many others.
  • Were you a virgin? What about your family's honour?
  • Maybe it wasn’t how you think it was, maybe it wasn't rape.
  • When will you get over this?
  • You should just forgive and forget.

The Alchemist

" A Fable about following your Dream "

Author: Paulo Coelho

Published by: Harper Collins Publishers

ISBN: 978-81-722-3498-0

About The Author:

Paulo Coelho was born in Brazil and has become one of the most widely read and loved authors in the world. Especially renowned for The Alchemist and Eleven Minutes, he has sold more than 140 million books worldwide and has been translated into 72 languages. The recipient of numerous prestigious international awards, amongst them the Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum and France’s Legion d’Honneur, Paulo Coelho was inducted into the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 2002.

Book Blurb:

Dreams are made to be followed.
Life is meant to be lived.
Some books are meant to be Read, Loved and Passed on.
The Alchemist is one of those books.

It is the story of a shepherd boy from the Spanish province of Andalusia who dreams of travelling the world in search of a treasure as desirable as any ever found. From his home he journeys to the exotic markets of North Africa and then into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits him…

My Review:

This book, “The Alchemist” is my first read of Paulo Coelho. We all know a lot about Paulo, don’t we??

The book is a fable about following your dream. And with that, it’s also a book which will teach you a way to lead your life. The inspirational/philosophical books are written in a way which usually makes a reader bore. But the book which has an interesting story to read, and which redefines your soul in some manner is always a worthy read. If you go with the story, this book will show you the way to follow your dream.

Here, the Author has narrated the story of an Alchemist who was just like any other boy. While following his dream, he met a woman who interpret dreams, a king who inspires him, an Englishman and finally an Alchemist who helps him in realizing his own worth.

While reading, I bet, you can’t stop turning pages. The 160pages of beautiful writing makes it small and a quick read. And the ending will make you realize what the book is all about. I will go with the Author’s word: “When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

My Ratings: 4.5/5 (A Worthy Read)

My Beloved's MBA Plans

" Crossroads of Love and Ambitions "

Author: Disha Chhabra

Published By: Srishti Publishers and Distributors

ISBN: 978-93-803-4998-5

About The Author:

An IIM-Calcutta alumnus, Disha loves to express herself through her poems and short stories. Be it travelling with her friends, philosophizing on life, working on a social project through her NGO or cooking for her family. Disha comes across as a multi-faceted person with an energetic smile.

My Beloved’s MBA Plans is her debut novel.

Contact The Author:

Website     Facebook      Twitter

Book Blurb:

My Beloved’s MBA Plans is a collection of engaging stories with a common thread running through all of them- How much are you willing to give to fulfill your MBA dream? Would you be willing to give up a cushy job and start from scratch? Would you be willing to stay apart from your spouse? Would you be willing to uproot your family from a well-settled life?

Read on to discover how Vivek’s MBA course turns out to be quite an adventurous journey with his wife Divya and their two kids. For Arpita, it is a second chance at love. Payal and Nitin make the campus their home while Geet faces a tragic loss. These are just a few stories from his colorful collection set against the backdrop of life on campus and aspirations for an MBA degree.

My Review:

When I first saw this book on Amazon, I thought it would be a book, written by a MBA aspirant. It must be a love story related to her life. But I was wrong. After reading a couple of reviews which I always do before picking a book, I found this book is an anthology, combined of 16 non-fictional love stories.

Anthologies generally don’t attract me but this book was certainly an exception. Set in the backdrop of IIM-C, the 16 non-fictional stories in the book would take you into the world of love; love that is true and mature. All the stories except 2 are about couples. The book is all about how they managed their career, professional life and marriageable life all together.

After completing I can say, not only you will love the stories, you will also fall in love with the characters. The book is only of 110 pages which will take around 3 hours to complete. The language written is easy to understand which makes it a beautiful read.

I would recommend this book to all, especially to the married couples. I have seen many couples fight and argue most of their time due to the complexity in their respective fields. This book will make them realize the value of their life-partner and they will respect each other, more than before.

I am little disappointed because I was craving for more. 110 pages was just not enough for me.

My Ratings: 4.5/5 (Simply, Awesome)
